Meet CASA Volunteer Wendy!
Meet Wendy Heathman, a dedicated CASA volunteer!
“At the age of nine, I entered foster care following my mother’s passing, with no family to take me in or provide guidance. I remained in foster care until I was 17, facing many challenges without a positive voice in my corner. That experience led me to become involved with CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates), as I felt a strong calling to be the kind of positive influence, I wished I had growing up.
I first heard of CASA through a commercial, and it instantly resonated with me. I knew deep in my heart that this was my path to be that supportive voice in a child’s life. Over the years, I believe I’ve made a difference simply by showing up, listening, and planting seeds of encouragement. I may not always see the results immediately, but I trust that, like life itself, growth takes time. Life is a bumpy road, filled with potholes, but I aim to teach the children I mentor that with perseverance, smoother paths lie ahead. These experiences don’t just help the child they help me grow as well, continually teaching me more about myself.
A little about me: All of my family is in Kansas. I have one daughter, who is 36, and a grandson, age 8. I also have a dog named Missy, who’s a beloved part of my life. Currently, I work as a marketer, and I also wait tables three days a week. My faith plays a central role in my life I’m deeply involved in my church, and I strive to serve the Lord in everything I do. Though work keeps me busy, I love finding time to enjoy simple pleasures like going out to eat, attending shows, and indulging in some good ice cream.
I would love to continue making a positive impact through CASA and to be that friend and mentor that every child deserves.”
Thank you, Wendy, for your incredible dedication and for being a beacon of hope for youth in our community!
