Meet CASA Volunteers Kamryn and Spencer Smith!
Kamryn had first seen CASA on a billboard; working with children every day as a teacher allowed her to see firsthand how some of her students have been impacted by the foster care system. That experience sparked her interest in CASA and made her want to step in and help.
When asked how she feels she has made a difference, Kamryn reflected: “We’ve been able to be a part of a reunification process and build a meaningful relationship with the mom, which has been so special. It’s been incredible to watch her grow, and we feel like we were able to help get her in a place where she can be successful and truly thrive. Our hope has always been to set her up for long-term success, and we are so proud of her progress. Along the way, we’ve also helped her get her apartment ready for reunification, gathered donations from the community to fully furnish it, and made meals for the family. We were also able to support their foster family by helping provide Christmas presents. During our time as CASAs, we’ve built a special relationship with the girls-taking them to enjoy activities like painting, pottery, visiting the aquarium, seeing Christmas lights, and many other fun experiences.”
Her advice for anyone considering becoming a CASA? “Don’t be afraid to take the leap! It can feel like a big commitment, but the relationships you build and the difference you make in a child’s life are so worth it. Outside of having our baby girl, this experience has been the highlight of my year”.
